Doing Evangelism or Building Evangelistic Communities

Written by  Bryan Mowrey

I recently looked back at some of our church's (Jubilee) old financial reports and I noticed something staggering. Five years ago we spent a more on evangelism that we did in 2010 even though today we are three times larger, baptize more people and see loads more guests. We are more effective today evangelistically even though financially we are putting a lot less into it. This led me to ask why and examine our approach. How are our priorities different?

Simple put, we are no longer just "doing" evangelism, but seeking to be evangelistic community first. In other words, we are spending more time in being something than doing something and we have found this to be much more effective.

As of today, here are Jubilee's evangelistic priorities:

1. Build an evangelistic community
2. Encourage & Equip people in personal evangelism
3. Do evangelistic events
4. Street evangelism

While we value all of these approaches, we have found that the top two are the most effective and the bottom two are the most expensive & time consuming. In my next posts, I'll expand upon how we go about pursuing each priority.
